Greeted with open arms and smiling faces, Katina Taylor, Vice President and Co-Founder of the Jason Taylor Foundation, visited Hibiscus Elementary School in Miami Gardens on Wednesday, November 16, as their guest principal through the Miami-Dade Public Schools annual “Principal For A Day” program.
Welcomed by Hibiscus Elementary’s Principal Kim Cox, Taylor was excited to see what was in store for her during her first experience as “Principal Taylor.” To kick off the morning, Taylor joined the school’s quarterly Honor Roll Recognition Ceremony for the third-fifth grade students who have produced exemplary work in the classroom as well as those who have gone above and beyond with improving their behavior. Many of Hibiscus Elementary’s proud parents were also on hand for this special celebration.
Taylor joined in the festivities as the school’s honorable principal and guest speaker, delivering a message emphasizing the importance of education, dreaming big and always believing in yourself. Principal Cox and “Principal Taylor” then individually congratulated each student for their academic and behavioral achievements with certificates and other rewards.
Principal Cox and “Principal Taylor” then visited a number of classrooms to meet and engage with students from Pre-K classes as they learned their numbers and explored their creativity with building blocks, all the way through fifth grade as they were studying to master long division, grammar and fun science experiments!
“Hibiscus Elementary is a very special school with exceptional students and teachers. They are so fortunate to have Ms. Cox as their wonderful Principal, and I am so honored that she invited me here as their guest Principal For A Day,” said Taylor.
This was Taylor’s second visit to Hibiscus Elementary, as she surprised a group of twenty girls, ages third-fifth grade a few weeks ago to lead them through one of her “Get Active” Series fitness workouts, through her partnership with the Strong Women, Strong Girls non-profit organization.
